My name is Mikeila Oliveira. I was born and raised in Prince George and hold strong community ties. I am a first generation born Canadian from a Portuguese family of which I have an older brother. I proudly embrace my family heritage and traditions which has opened my curiosity of other cultures and teachings. I began my post secondary journey in Cardiff, Wales on an academic and athletic scholarship where I was enrolled in Sports Science and was a member of Cardiff Met Women’s Football team. After one year, I decided to return home and pursue my undergrad in History, where I was closer proximity to my main support systems. I began volunteering in classrooms and found the right career path for me. My long term interests and hobbies have been sports (mainly soccer, basketball, and volleyball), hiking, landscaping, and spending time with family and friends. Additionally, I deeply love the sharing of oral histories and artifacts – especially that of genealogy. My volunteer experience has been some of the most impactful influences to my practice. I have had the pleasure of coaching community and school sports for over a decade. I have enjoyed volunteering in the sandwich line at St. Vincent de Paul and tutoring Math 10. I have had the honour of being a board member of the Portuguese Cultural Society of Prince George since 2020 in my current role as Community Liaison.
